More details of the advisory committees
Adult and community education advisory committee
History Established in 1975, the ACE Advisory Committee has been closely involved in the life and evolution of Adult and Community Education and in the education programs for children, adults, and community through the years. The Committee meets monthly, visits classroom sites, and attends graduations and special events in support of Adult and Community Education programs and students.
The ACE Committee members are appointed by the respective magisterial and at-large FCPS School Board members.
School Board Charge (2015-2016)
1. Ensure that ACE Career Readiness program and Adult ESOL are prepared to comply with the new components and expectations included in the 2017 AEFLA Grant as a result of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act (WIOA) by providing information and guidance on specific industries and career paths to target employment needs and qualifications requirements for prospective employees; and
2. Assess the GED program and changes being proposed by VDOE as they relate to the Adult High School Completion Program, and assess the changes required in resources for successful implementation of GED or replacement exam.
The ACE Advisory committee appreciates the School Board’s attention to Adult and Community Education and highly recommends that the recommendations are adopted by the board.
Human Relations Advisory Committee
The School Board’s Human Relations Advisory Committee (HRAC) helps the School Board fulfill its commitment to equal opportunity and non-discrimination as essential components of educational excellence in Fairfax County Public Schools. The HRAC serves in an advisory capacity to the School Board and studies the human relations implications of issues as highlighted in a charge given to the committee by the School Board each year. The committee presents its report with recommendations to the School Board in June. This committee consists of members representing the School Board, including their student representatives, and members nominated by community organizations and school administration.
