Seminar with FCPS Superintendent Dr. Gazar’s Office at Hope Chinese School

Information Seminar with Fairfax County Public School Superintendent Dr. Karen Gazar’s Office

CAPAFC (Chinese American Parent Association of Fairfax County,费郡华裔家长联合会) and 80-20 Asian American PAC Washington DC Area Chapter have the honor to invite Dr. Karen Gazar’s office to give us an information seminar about the current school board budget issue at Hope Chinese School Tysons Campus.

Since Dr. Garza has another obligation at that time, she has asked Carol Hurley, her budget director to speak with our Chinese Community on Sunday December 6th at Marshall High school from 2:30 to 4:00pm at cafeteria.

A recent Washington Post article stated “Fairfax County school officials have been sounding the alarm about a potentially significant budget shortfall that could lead to major cuts next school year, with the most recent estimates forecasting the deficit at the state’s largest school system at $71.6 million… The potential shortfall means that the school system, one of the nation’s largest, will have to seriously consider a number of proposals to balance the budget, including cuts to popular programs.” [1]

Included in the proposed cuts are some popular programs to Chinese parents such as the AAP centers, AAP center transportation and TJ 8th period.

The purpose of the meeting is helping Chinese community to understand how can we support the school system and school board in the wake of budget crisis. Meanwhile parents may also raise questions about the proposed cuts.
